William Dabill was born in 1900 at Hucknall and was the son of John a sewage farm labourer and Sarah Dabill née Allen of 19 Wood Lane Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire His father John was born in 1872 at Hucknall and his mother Sarah Allen was born in 1869 also at Hucknall, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration disitrict, Sarah brought a son to the marriage Samuel Allen born in 1888 at Hucknall, they went on to have the following children, Mary b1895, Cissie b1898, William b1900, Fred b1902 and John Dabill b1909, all were born in Hucknall. In the 1911 census the family were living at 19 Wood Lane Hucknall Torkard and are shown as John 39 yrs a sewage farm labourer, he is living with his wife Sarah 42 yrs and their children, Samuel Allen 23 yrs a stepson a boot and shoe maker/dealer, Mary 16 yrs assisting in boot shop, Cissie 13 yrs a hosiery embroider, William 11 yrs a scholar, Fred 9 yrs a scholar and John 2 yrs of age, also living with them is Mary Peck 66 yrs a widow hosiery embroiderer she is John's wife mother.

Military History

Private William Dabill enlisted at Derby whilst residing at Hucknall, he served with the 7th battalion The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment). He was killed in action on 24th October 1918 and he is buried at Honnechy British Cemetery, France.
