He was the son of the late George Jackson of Lenton Nottingham. He had been adopted by his aunt and uncle Edward and Annie Jackson and lived in 1911 with them and two cousins, George Jackson and Nellie Lake, at 4 Manning Street Woodborough Road Nottingham.

Nottingham Evening Post obituary (abridged) 15 October 1917: 'SLATER died of wounds October 7th, Private Aubrey Jackson, Liverpool Regiment, son of the late George Jackson, Lenton, adopted son of Mr and Mrs F Jackson, 4 Manning(?) Street, Woodborough Road.'
