He was the son of John William and Elizabeth Goodacre and the brother of John Ernest (killed in action 20/9/1917), Flora, William James, Beatrice Alice, Mary and Bertha Goodacre of 1 Turner Street Nottingham. He was the husband of Lily Wood (formerly Goodacre) of 7 Alpine Terrace Hunt Street St Ann's Nottingham.
Harry Goodacre served at Gallipoli and in Egypt. He had survived the Battles of Thiepval, Messines and 3rd Ypres but was killed during the battalion's final action of the war at Sebourg. After taking the village, the unit was tasked with moving forward to the heights above but the enemy was waiting and caught them in heavy cross fire of machine guns, killing over 50 men and wounding many others.
