Son of John and Mary Riley, of Nottingham; husband of Elsie Riley of Prudential Buildings, Queen Street, Nottingham. He had three brothers, Joe, Will and Tom.
He served in 'C' Bty. He is buried in the Achiet-Le-Grand Communal Cemetery Extension (grave ref. IV.O.6).
Nottingham Evening Post notice (abridged) 17 December 1917: 'Riley. Killed in action December 1st 1917, Bombardier Charles Riley RFA, 16 Thurgaton Street, Sneinton, (late postman). Wife Elsie (nee Barber), mother, father, brother Joe and Will (wounded in action), brother Tom.'
