He was the husband of Annie (née Walker) Blackshaw and the father of Lily, John, Mary and Walter Blackshaw. In 1911 they lived at 22 Lennox Street Nottingham.
Walter Blackshaw enlisted at Chilwell, Nottingham and had served in France since 11th November 1914. He is buried in Philosophe British Cemetery, Mazingarbe.
Obituaries published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 22nd November 1919:- BLACKSHAW. - In loving memory of my dear husband, who fell in action November 23rd, 1917. Christ will link the broken chain closer when we meet again. - From wife and family. “BLACKSHAW. - In memory of W. Blackshaw, killed Nov. 23rd, 1917.
