He lived with his aunt Mrs. Buckles, his father and mother being both dead, they died, within a few days of each other, and were buried on successive Saturdays many years ago. Their birthplace was Red Lion yard.” His guardian on his pension card was his sister Millicent Brown of 11 Garratt Street, Netherfield, Nottingham.

Military History

Rifleman William ' Billy' Brown enlisted at Hucknall on 4th January 1915, he served with the 12th battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps. He landed in France on 24th July 1915 joining the British Expeditionary Force. He was shot and killed by a sniper on 26th September 1915, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium
