Military History

Private Edwin Brentnall enlisted at Nottingham and went to France 28th November 1914 with the 1st Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment. He was transferred to the 10th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derbys) Regiment and was killed in action, 8th August 1916, aged 19, during the attack on the German positions at Melville Wood, France, during the Battle of the Somme. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
