William McCree

William McCree (junior) was born in 1896 at Nottingham, he was the son of William McCree (senior) a cardboard box cutter and Ann McCree née Fairburn and the brother of Maude, Ernest, Harriet and Albert McCree. of 32 North Street, Sneinton.
His father William McCree (senior) was born i 1863 at Nottingham, his mother Ann Fairburn was born in 1864 at Nottingham they were married on 27th June 1892 at St Pauls Church, Nottingham they went on to have 5 children.
In the 1911 census the family lived at 20 Albert Square Walker Street Nottingham, Willaim McCree 48 yrs is a cardboard box cutter, he is living with his wife Ann 47 yrs and their children, Maude 18 yrs a lace mender, Harriett 17 yrs a lace joiner, William 15 yrs a cabinet makers assistant, Ernest 13 yrs a lace manufactuerers erranb boy and Albert 9 yrs a scholar.
Private William McCree enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 28756 in the Sherwood Foresters, Welbeck Rangers, he later served with the 8th Battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. he was killed in action on 4th November 1918. and is buried in Wargnies-le-Grand Churchyard France

Pte. William McCree, North Staffords, of 32 North-street, in his 23rd year. He answered his name when the roll was called in Heaven. – Sorrowing mother, father, sister Harriett, Albert, Ernie (in Palestine).
In memoriam published 28th November 1918 :-
“McCREE. – Killed in action, November 4th, 1918, Pte. William McCree, North Staffords, of 32 North-street, in his 23rd year. An earthly treasure taken. – Sorrowing sister Maud, Ernest (in Germany).
“McCREE. – Killed in action, November 4th, 1918, Pte. W. McCree, North Staffords, in his 23rd year. Give unto him eternal rest, O Lord, and let Thy perpetual light shine on him. – Clara.”
In memoriam published 4th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :-
“McCREE. – In affectionate remembrance of our dear son and brother, Pte. William McCree, 8th North Staffords, killed in action November 4th, 1918. There is a link death cannot sever, tender memories life for ever. – Loving mother, father, sister Harriett, brothers, Ernest, Albert.
“McCREE. – In loving memory of my dear brother, Pte. William McCree, 8th North Staffords, killed in action November 4th, 1918. Safe in God's keeping. – Loving sister Maud, brother-in-law Ernest.
“McCREE. – In loving remembrance of Will, who was killed in action November 4th, 1918. Until the day breaks. – Clara.”
