Family History

He was the son of Daniel and Sarah Barke of 4 Woodstock Street, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire and the brother of John, Joseph, Alfred, Ernest and Wilfred Barke. In 1901 they lived on St Mary's Lane Kirkby in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. He later lived at 142, Beardall Street, Hucknall, Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Ezra Barke enlisted on 15th July 1909 at Derby aged 17 years and 11 months. He served in India and went to France 4th November 1914. He received shell wounds to his scalp on 6th July 1915 and was treated at No.2 Casualty Clearing station, transferred to Etaples and then Harfleur. He later returned to the line and was killed in action during an attack on the German line near Guillemont. Thiepval Memorial.

His age was incorrectly cited as 27 by CWGC. He was born J/A/S/1891 so was either 25 or 26 when killed.
