He was the son of Frank Potter and Elizabeth Barkby and the brother of Blanche Sybil Barkby. In 1911 the lived at 16 Bestwood Colliery Village Bestwood Park Nottinghamshire. Frank and Elizabeth later lived at The Croft Papplewick Lane Hucknall Torkard Nottinghamshire.
