Joseph was born in 1874 in Eckington, Derbyshire and was the son of James and Sarah Ann Harrison he was baptised at Eckington on 22nd October 1874. In the 1911 census he is living at 3 Tyne Street, New Lenton , he is shown as being 36 yrs born Eckington and a coal miner, he is living with his wife Emily Harrison 41 yrs born Paddington and a cotton reeler. On the census they state they have been married for 3 yrs and have had no children. At the time of his death he was living at 5, Kyte-square, New Lenton,
Pte. Joseph Harrison, 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, enlisted at Doncaster and served with the 3rd battalion Grenadier Guards , he was killed in action on 18th October 1915. A photograph of the Sudan and Boer War veteran was published on 14th December 1915 (see below) his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial Dud Corner Panel 5 to 7
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post 18th October 1916. “HARRISON. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Lance-Cpl. Joe Harrison, Grenadier Guards, 5, Kyte-square, New Lenton, killed in action, 18th October, 1915; went through Boer War, also Egyptian Campaign, four medals and seven clasps.
