Family History

Albert was the son of Thomas and Mary Redgate. He married Margaret Whittaker in 1903 (O/N/D Nottingham) and according to the 1911 Census they had had four children of whom only three survived: Lottie b. 28 June 1904 (J/A/S Nottingham), Ernest Sydney (Sidney) b. 10 December 1908 (1909 J/F/M Nottingham) and Margaret b. 1910 (O/N/D Nottingham) who died in 1911 (J/A/S Nottingham, buried 7 September). However, it is possible that Albert and Margaret had three more children after 1911 as the birth registration records give the mother's maiden name as Whittaker: Albert b. 18 May 1912 (A/M/J Nottingham), died 1984 (July Basford) aged 72; Lily b. 1913 (O/N/D Nottingham) died 1915 (O/N/D Nottingham, buried 23 October 1915); Lucy b. 1916 (J/A/S Nottingham). At the time of the 1911 Census the family was living at 62 Court Street, Hyson Green. Albert (28), worked for Raleigh Cycle Company (cycle brazing). He and Margaret (25) had three children; Lottie (7), Ernest (2) and Margaret (7 months). Margaret died the following year aged 1 year. Albert's wife Margaret later lived at 1 Cross Yard, Bloomsgrove Street, Radford, Nottingham (CWGC). She married Frank Lowe in 1919 (J/A/S Nottingham) and died in 1950 (September Nottingham) aged 64. Lottie Redgate married George Saxton in 1921 (O/N/D Nottingham). She died in 1972 (December Nottingham) aged 68. Ernest Sidney married Phyllis E Banyard in 1931 (O/N/D Nottingham). He died in 1999 (January Nottingham) aged 90.
