Archibald Smith Shaw was born in 1893 he was the son of Samuel Smith Shaw and Jane Bertie Shaw née Abell and the brother of Beatrice and Wilfred Shaw. Samuel Smith Shaw was born in 1867 at Radford, Jane Bertie Abell was born in 1871 at Nottingham, they were married in 1889 at Nottingham and had 5 children, 1 sadly died in infancy or early childhood, In 1911 the family lived at 16 Clifford Street Radford Nottingham.

Military History

Lance Coproral Archibald Smith Shaw, enlisted on 7th November 1914 at Coventry, he was 18 yrs and 7 months old, he was living at 18 Clara Street, Stoke, Coventry his next of kin was his mother Jane Shaw of the same address. Posted to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He landed in France on 29th June 1916 and suffered from “shell shock” on 22nd July 1916. He was serving with 1/8th Battalion Royal Warwickshire Regiment when he was killed in action in Italy on 15th June 1918 and is buried in Magnaboschi British Cemetery,Asiago Plateau, Italy.
