Family History

He was the son of Ann Raynor and the brother of Alfred Raynor. In 1911 they lived at 4 Manchester Cottages Denman Street Radford Nottingham. Henry married Emily Villers (born 12th February 1895 ) on 11th April 1914 at Nottingham, they had a son Henry Shipman Raynor born 25th March 1916 and lived at 72 Saville Street, Hyson Green. Following his death his widow Emily was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 28th May 1917. He widow later Sidney Jacklin in 1920 and they lived at 82 Saville Street.

Military History

Private Henry Shipman Raynor attested at Nottingham on 23rd November 1915, he gave his age as 22 yrs and 8 months, his address was 72 Saville Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, his occupation was that of a brewery labourer his next of kin was his wife Emily of the same address. He was posted to the reserves and mobilised for war on 7th April 1916 reporting to the depot at Derby. Posted to the 19th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment on 11th April 1916 . He landed in France on 31st July 1916 and was serving with 'B' Coy 17th battalion Sherwood Foresters when he went missing in action on 3rd April 1916 (later confirmed killed in action on that date) Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
