Albert James Johnson was born in 1895 he was the son of Arthur a lace maker and Annie Johnson née Kirk and the brother of Arthur b1886, Annie b1889 and Leonard Claude Johnson 1898. Arthur was born in 1886 at Nottingham, Annie Kirk was born in 1864 also at Nottingham, they were married in 1886 at Nottingham and had 4 children. In 1911 the family lived at 133 Hartley Road Radford Nottingham Arthur 45 yrs is a lace maker he is living with his wife Annie 47 yrs and two of their children, Albert James 17 yrs a lace threader and Leonard Claude 13 yrs a school boy. Albert James married Martha Tomlinson (born 14th March 1893) in 1914 at Nottingham, they lived at 19 Mitchell Street, Radford, Nottingham Martha brought a child to the marriage Albert Tomlinson born 31st March 1912 and they had a s daughter Gladys born 9th October 1914. Commencing 18th March 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 24 shillings and two pence a week.
Lance Sergeant Albert James Johnson enlisted at Nottingham, he initially served with the service number 268 in the North Midland Cyclist Company. He was killed in action on 30th August 1917 whilst serving with the King's Liverpool Regiment and is buried at Dranoutre Military Cemetery, Belgium.
