Thomas Holmes was born in 1898 at Ollerton and was the son of the late Thomas and Sarah Holmes of 15 Garfield Road Radford Nottingham. In the 1911 the family are living at 2 Bramcote Terrace, Nottingham and are shown as Sarah 47 yrs and a widow, she is living with her children James 18 yrs a lamp man Ernest 15 yrs an errand boy and Thomas 13 yrs.
Private Thomas Holmes, enlisted at Sunderland whilst residing at Radford, Nottingham, he served with the 11th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 6th October 1916 and is buried in Dernancourt Communal Cemetery Extension.
In memoriam published 6th October 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “HOLMES. – In loving memory of Pte. Thomas Holmes, died of wounds, Oct. 6th, 1916.
