Thomas Cliff Hickling was born in 1892 at Bulwell and was the son of the late George a coal miner and Amy Hickling née Sparrey of 10 Montford Street Radford Nottingham. His father George was born in 1866 at Coleorton, Leicester, he died in 1901 he was 35 yrs old. and his mother Amy Sparrey was born in 1867 at King's Norton, Worcestershire, they were married on 20th July 1886 at the Register Office, Kings Norton, they went on to have the following children, George William Cliffe b1890, Thomas Cliffe b1892, Frank Cliffe b1894, May Cliffe b1896, Lillian Cliffe b1898 and William Cliffe Hickling b1900 all were born in Bulwell.

Military History

Lance Corporal Thomas Cliffe Hickling enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1st battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He landed in France on 31st August 1915 and was killed in action on 3rd October 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, France, panel 8
