Tom Clifford was born in 1899 at Nottingham, he was the son of Annie Clifford and the brother of Annie and Frank Clifford. In 1911 they lived at 48 Brassey Street Nottingham. His mother later re married to become Annie Turner and lived at 3 Williams Yard, Ronald Street, Nottingham.
Private Tom Clifford enlisted on 25th June 1917 at Nottingham, giving his age as 17 yrs and 361 days, he was a bleachers labourer and lived at 17 Court Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, his next of kin was his mother Annie of the same address. Posted to the reserves he was mobilised on 4th August 1917 and was now 18 yrs and 30 days old. He initially served with the service number 268994 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was killed in action on 12th September 1918 whilst serving with the West Riding Regiment. He is buried in Hermies Hill British Cemetery.
