Family History

George Ward was born in 1882 he was the son of Elijah a frame work knitter and Ann Ward néé Price. Elijah was born in 1852 at Sutton in Ashfield, Ann Price was born in 1853 at Nottingham, they were married in 1872 at Nottingham they had 7 children, John James b1873, Ellen b1874, Martha b1876, Elijah b1878, George b1882, Annie b1886 and Mabel b1888. In 1911 they lived at 42 St Stephen's Road Sneinton Nottingham. Elijah is 58 yrs and a frame work knitter, he is living with his wife Ann 58 yrs and two of their children, George 29 yrs a book binder and Mabel 23 yrs a blouse machinist. He was the husband of Jane Catherine (née Empson) Ward (born 3rd February 1881) whom he married in 1912 at Nottingham, and the father of Alan Ernest Ward born 2nd May 1916 of 51 Loughborough Avenue Sneinton Dale Nottingham. Commencing 17th February 1919 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and elven pence a week.

Military History

Sergeant George Ward enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 30th May 1918, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial
