Extra Information

Article published Beeston Gazette & Echo 9th November 1918 :- “Harry Wild, who was only 20 years old, left the farm for military duties at the end of last May. He went to France on September 17 after a vigorous training at Somercotes. He was attached to the 1st Leicesters, and going directly into the line, he went into the advance on the Cambrai sector. He was not destined, however, for a prolonged stay amid the horrors of war. He received a scalp wound, and was in hospital at Le Treport by the first week in October, and died there on October 21. “The father had the satisfaction of seeing his son before he passed away, and attended his funeral the following day, the military authorities Laving requested one of his parents to visit him. Mr. Wild made the journey to France, and speaks highly of the way our brave heroes are cared for, the indefatigable nurses, and the splendid hospital equipment. “Mr. and Mrs. Wild's eldest son, Wilfred, has been in France nearly 18 months. He was slightly wounded some time ago, but not sufficient to bring him to Blighty. He was given ten days' leave to visit his brother at Le Treport, but did not arrive until his brother had passed away.” In memoriam published 21st October 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “WILD. – In loving memory of Pte. Harry Wild, who died of wounds October 21st, 1918. Interred Le Treport, France. Not gone from memory, not gone from love. But gone to our Father's home above. – From sorrowing father, mother, brothers, and sisters, Newstead.” Above newspaper articles are courtesy of Jim Grundy and his facebook pages Small Town Great War Huciknall 1914-1918.
