The memorial was unveiled by Lieutenant General Sir Herbert Cherimside GCMB CB and dedicated by the Rev. HH Summers MA on 19 January 1920. Front panel of plinth: 'In grateful memory of the Officers and Men of Newstead who fell in the Great War 1914-1919.' 3 names WW1. Base of plinth: 'Pass not this cross in sorrow but in pride and may you live as nobly as they died.' Left side of plinth: 7 names WW1. Right side of plinth: 7 names WW1.
