Family History

Ernest Lester Smith (junior) was born in 1895 he was the son of William Lester Smith (senior) and Annie Smith, of 61, Woodward St., Nottingham. His father William Lester Smith (senior was born in 1865 at Bulwell, his mother Annie was born in 1868 at Swinnington, Leicestershire, they were married C1893 and had one other child a daughter Bertha Lester Smith b1894 at Hyson Green. In 1911 the family are living at 3 Mabel Street, Nottingham, William Lester (senior) is 46 yrs and is a lace maker, he is living with his wife Annie 43 yrs and their 2 children, Bertha 17 yrs a machinist and Ernest Lester 15 yrs a stock keeper in a warehouse.

Military History

Private Ernest Lester Smith enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 26th September 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated Ton the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Panel 99 to 102 and 162 to 162A.
