Family History

Henry Shepherd was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the son of the late Joseph a dyer and Elizabeth Shepherd née Lambert of 3, East Grove, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1853 at Nottingham he died in 1910 aged 60 yrs, his mother Elizabeth Lambert was born in 1857 at Nottingham, they were married in 1879 at Nottingham, they went on to have 9 children sadly 4 were to die in infancy or early childhood. Their surviving children were , Richard b1880, Arthur b1883, Mabel b1888 and Henry b1895. In the 1911 census the family are living at 3 East Grove, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham and are shown as Elizabeth Shepherd 54 yrs a widow she is living with her children, Mabel 23 yrs a machinist and Henry 16 yrs a jackard puncher.

Military History

Private Henry Shepherd enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at New Basford, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th July 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
