Harry Seymour was born in 1895 in Hucknall and was the son of John a coal miner and Mary Seymour née Warsop of 11 Back Cottage, Bulwell, Nottingham. His father John was born in 1854 in Epperstone and his mother Mary Warsop was born in 1859 in Basford, they were married in 1877 in Nottingham and went on to have 9 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhhood. Their surviving children were all born in Hucknall and were, Charlotte b1881, Thomas b1883, David b1886, Nellie b1888, John Roland b1889, Harry b1894 , George b1903. In the 1911 census the family are living at 311 Quarry Road, Bulwell, Nottingham they are shown as John 57 yrs a coal miner he is living with his wife Mary 52 yrs and their children, David 25 yrs a coal miner, John Roland 22 yrs a coal miner, Harry 16 yrs a coal miner and George 8 yrs , also living with them is their married daughter Nellie Knibbs 23 yrs and her children Thomas Knibbs 4 yrs and Lilley Knibbs 1 year of age.
Private Harry Seymour enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Bulwell he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters. He landed in France on 8th September 1914 and he was killed in action on 20th October 1914. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial
His brother Corporal John Roland Seymour enlisted on 5th October 1915 in Nottingham, he gave his age as 26 yrs and 1 month, his address as 24 Fairfax Street, Basford, Nottingham and his occupation as that of a collier, his next of kin was his wife Beatrice of the same address. He was posted with the service number 31336 to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He landed in France on 14th July 1916 and posted on 30th August 1916 to the 9th battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers. He was promoted to Lace Corporal on 6th December 1916 and to Corporal on 2nd April 1918. He was killed in action on 3rd August 1918 and is buried in Bertenacre Military Cemetery,Fletre, France grave reference I.C.6
