Stanley Saxton was born in 1898 the son of George a hosiery knitter and Ann Sarah Saxton née Kniveton and the brother of George, Reginald and Winifred May Saxton of 2 Nesbitt Street, Sutton in Ashfield. George was born in 1872 at Sutton in Ashfield, Ann Sarah Kniveton was born in 1870 at Ripley, married in 1892 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district they had 4 children. In 1911 the family were living at 2 Nesbitt Street, Sutton in Ashfield, George is 39 yrs and a hosiery hand knitter, he is living with his wife Ann Sarah 41 yrs and their 4 children, also living with them is Selina Kniveton 82 yrs a widow and George's mother in law.

Military History

Private Stanley Saxton enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he served with the 15th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and was killed in action on 28th March 1918, He is buried at Hem Farm Military Cemetery.
