Percy Harold was born in 1890 in Radford and was the only son of John a grocer and Agnes Salisbury née Green of 84 Wilford Crescent East Meadows Nottingham.His father John was born in 1846 in Sneinton, his mother Agnes was born in 1858 in Blaby Leicestershire, they were married in Nottingham in 1890. In the 1911 census the family are living at 84 Wilford Crescent East, Meadows, Nottingham and are shown as John 65 yrs a grocer, he is living with his wife Agnes 53 yrs and his son Percy Harold 14 yrs a valuers apprentice. Also living with them is Richard Green 80 yrs a widow Percy's grandfather.
Second Lieutenant Percy Harold Salisbury, 10th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment, attached 11th Battalion Cheshire Regiment, was killed in action on 27th August 1916. He is buried in Blighty Valley Cemetery, Authuille Wood.
The battalion was kept busy digging new trenches and carrying stores at this time. The war diary records, “The weather was unkind and added greatly to the discomfort of the men as well as making all work trebly difficult. Under these conditions one learns how hard it is to carry bombs through 2 feet of sticky mud, how hard it is to get the mud from a shovel and all under a heavy shelling which daily obliterated the trenches dug.”In memoriam notice published 27th August 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “SALISBURY. – In loving memory of Lieut. Percy H. Salisbury, killed in action August 27th, 1916, aged 20.
