Ernest was born in 1881 in Grantham and was the son of John a publican and Sarah Parrott (née Truman). He had four siblings - Montague, Trueman, Maud and Olive. At the time of his death his parents and siblings were living in the Bedford area. By the 1911 census, Ernest now 30 years of age is single, a boarder, his occupation is letter carrier for the Post Office living at 100 Exeter Road, Sherwood Rise, Nottingham, living with Wiliam and Elizabeth Peters. In 1914 Ernest is married to Norah Belinda Crane at Nottingham, they live at 16 Eaton terrace, Eaton Street, Mapperley, Nottingham. Following Ernest death his widow is awarded a pension of 10 shillings a week commencing 8th May 1916. Later his widow Norah Belinda remarries and takes the name Norah Belinda Pearson and lives at 47 Eaton Road, Mapperley, and on 16th May 1919 completes the army form W 5080 giving details of Ernest relatives.

Military History

Ernest had seen previous service with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters and was in the reserves. At the outbreak of the war he was recalled and attested on 8th August 1914 at Nottingham. He gave his address as 55 Harcourt Road, his occupation as that of postman and stated he was 34 years and 3 months old. He served on the home front until on 28th February 1915 when he joined the British Expeditionary Force in France. He was killed in action on 13th October 1915. Although a location for his grave was recorded this was subsequently lost and his name is commemorated on the Loos memorial, Pas De Calais, France.

Nottingham Post notice, 4 November 1915: 'Parrott. Killed in action October 13th, Private Ernest Parrott, National Reserve attached to Sherwood Foresters. Nottingham postman. Husband of Norah Parrott, 15 Eaton Terrace, Mapperley. Son in law of Mr and Mrs O Crane, 47 Eaton Street, Mapperley.'
