Family History

John Thomas Marson was born in 1885 at Eastwood and was the son of Joseph a coal miner hewer and Sarah Marson née Richmond of 29 Worrall Street Arnold Nottinghamshire. His father Joseph was born in 1857 at Owthorpe, his mother Sarah Ann Richmond was born in 1852 at Kinoulton, they were married in 1880 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they had the following children, Emma Hilda b1882 Eastwood, John Thomas b1884 Eastwood, Lucy Mary b1886 Eastwood and Eliza b1890 Annesley, In the 1911 census the family are living at Westbury Villa, Daybrook and are shown as Joseph 54 yrs a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 59 yrs and their children, John Thomas 26 yrs a coal miner hewer, Eliza 21 yrs a blouse machinist and their married daughter Lucy Mary Worthington 25 yrs and her husband Ernest Worthington 29 yrs a joiner.

Military History

Private John Thomas Marson enlisted at Mansfield and initially served wit the service number 40794 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was serving with 2/6th Battalion Cameronians (Scottish Rifle) when he was killed in action on 8th May 1918. He is buried at Voormezeele Enclosure no 3, Belgium
