Franklin Buxton Makin was born in 1894 the son of the late John a needle grinder and Fanny Makin, née Buxton of 17, Eaton St., Mapperley Plains, Nottingham, John was born in 1837 at Hathersage, Derbyshire he died in 1908 at Nottingham aged 71 yrs Fanny Buxton was born in 1861 at Froggatt Edge, Derbyshire, married in 1891 at Nottingham they had a further son John born 1897 at Nottingham. In 1911 the family lived at Eaton Road, Mapperley, Fanny (a widow) 48 yrs and a char woman is living with her son Franklin 16 yrs an errand boy.

Military History

Private Franklin Buxton Makin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Mapperley served with 'X' Company 2nd battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 23rd October 1916, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
