Frank Leslie How was born in 1896 in Nottingham and was the son of Frank Herbert a house painter and Jessie Maud How née Tebb of 45, Ossington St, Radford, Nottingham. His father Frank Herbert was born in 1866 in Rochester, Kent and his mother Jessie Maud Tebb was born in 1868 in Doncaster, Yorkshire , they were married in 1894 in Nottingham and went on to have 8 children , sadly 1 one in infancy, their surviving children were all born in Nottingham and were : Elsie Maud b1895, Frank Leslie b1896, Gladys b 1898, Maria b1899, George William b1903, Adelaide b1904 and Doris Florence b1906. In the 1911 census the family are living at 45 Ossington Street, Radford, Nottingham and are shown as Frank Herbert 45 yrs a house painter, he is living with his wife Jessie 43 yrs and their children Elsie Maud 16 yrs a wool worker, Frank Leslie 15 yrs a cotton spinner, Gladys 13 yrs a scholar, Maria 12 yrs a scholar, George William 8 yrs a scholar, Adelaide 7 yrs a scholar and Doris Florence 5 yrs.
Private Frank Leslie How, enlisted at Nottingham and initially served with the South Notts Hussars , he was serving with the 100th Battalion Machine Gun Corps, when he was killed in action on 10th September 1918. He is buried in Epehy Wood Farm Cemetery, Ephey.
In memoriam published 13th September 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- HOW. – In affectionate remembrance of our dear son, Tpr.
