Samuel Gunn was born on 14th April 1896 at Ruddington, he was baptised on 24th May 1896 at St Peters Church, Ruddington he was the son of Thomas a hosiery manufacturer and Ann Gunn née Barnes and the brother of Maud Ellen born 1886 and Percy born 1895. Thomas was born in 1856, Ann Barnes was born in 1855 both were born in Ruddington, they were married in 1884 at Ruddington and had 3 children. In the 1911 census the family lived on Chapel Street, Ruddington, Thomas 55 yrs is a hosiery maker, he is living with his wife Annie 56 yrs and their two sons Percy 16 yrs a printing assistant and Samuel 14 yrs a stamping assistant in hosiery manufacture The family later lived on High Street, Ruddington Nottinghamshire).

Military History

Private Samuel Gunn enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Ruddington, he served with the 1st battalion King’s Rifle Corps, he died of wounds on 27th July 1916 and is buried at Dive Copse British Cemetery, Sailly-Le- Sec.
