Family History

Alfred Shaw was born in 1885 at Mansfield, the son of the late Henry Shaw and Eliza Shaw née Mundall. Henry was born in 1846 and died in 1889, Eliza Mundall was born in 1847, they were married in 1867 at Mansfield. and had 4 children. In 1911 Alfred was living at Skegby Forest he was boarding with the family of his future wife he was shown as Alfred Shaw 25 yrs a brickyard labourer, his future wife Fanny Wardle is 25 yrs and a housekeeper to her brother James Wardle 30 yrs a green grocer. Alfred married Fanny Wardle (born 10th January 1886 ) in 1914, their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they lived ta Rugs Lane, Dalestorth, Skegby and a daughter Alice born 1st November 1915. Commencing 19th August 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 20 shillings and 5 pence a week.

Military History

Private Alfred Shaw enlisted at Mansfield, he died of wounds on 3rd February 1918 and is buried at Metz-En- Couture Communal Cemetery British Extension, France.
