George was the son of William Daubney a labourer. Born 1896 in Nottingham he had a younger sister Lily. In 1901 George, Lily and their father were boarding at No 19 Beacon Street, Nottingham. His mother is not present. In 1911 the family were living at 53 Oaklands, Colwick Vale, and William states he is a widower. Both George and his father were working at the local furniture factory.
He enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 402nd Battery Royal Field Artillery and his medal card says he was a Driver. According to the Colwick War memorial he was killed at Cambrai in December 1917. The date is given as 22nd on the War graves website and the 23rd on the war memorial. He is buried at Metz-en-Couture communal Cemetery British Extension, in the Pas de Calais region of France. He was eligible for the British and Victory medals
