Family History

He was the son of Charles Edward a nurseryman and Ethel Taylor Pearson née Pelton of Hill Crest, Gonalston. His father Charles Edward was born in 1857 in Chilwel, his mother Ethel Taylor Pelton was born in 1865 in Tunbridge Wells, they were married in 1897 in Sussex, and had the following further children, Elizabeth b1899 Chilwell, Aubrey John b1900 Lowdham, and Carina Hetley b1907 Gonalston. In 1911 the family lived at Hill Crest Gonalston Southwell Nottinghamshire and were shown as :- Charles Edward a nurseryman 54 yrs he is living with his wife Ethel Taylor 45 yrs and their children Charles Oliver 13 yrs a scholar, Elisabeth 11 yrs a scholar and Carina 4 yrs.

Military History

Second Lieutenant Oliver Charles Pearson enlisted on 23rd September 1915 into the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps. Following his training he was gazetted as Second Lieutenant into the Royal Flying Corps on 25th September 1916. He reported to Oxford on 9th October 1916 for flying training. He was awarded his wings on 23rd May 1917 and commenced operational flying almost immediately, he was sent to 70th Squadron. He was slightly wounded on 20th August 1917 and had only just recovered and recommenced combat flying when he was killed near Langemarke whilst flying a Sopwith Camel b3787 on an offensive patrol on 10th September 1917, his remains were never recovered. He was a victim of Ltn Werener Voss. His name is commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial.

Extra Information

His father Charles Edward Pearson was sadly knocked down and killed by a train in thick fog at Lowdham train station on 15th November 19129 , he was buried at St Lawrence Church Gonalston on 19th November 1929. He was registered and cited on 1911 Census as Charles Oliver
