Family History

George Henry R Curran was born in 1893 and was the son of Sam Curran a bobbin carriage hand and his first wife the late Adelaide Curran, née Paulson of 25, Springfield Street, New Basford, Nottingham. His father Sam Curran was born in 1871 at Nottingham and his mother Adelaide Eliza Paulson was born in 1871 also in Nottingham, she died in 1903 in Nottingham aged 32 years. They were married in 1892 n Nottingham and went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Nottingham, George b1893, Florence b1896, and Albert b1900. His mother Adelaide died in 1903 and his father Samuel re married in 1904 to Alice Palmer at Nottingham they have a further son Percy born in 1908. In the 1911 census the family is living at 25 Springfield Street, Nottingham and are shown as Samuel 39 yrs a bobbin carriage hand, he is living with his wife Alice 33 yrs and his children, George 17 yrs a bobbin carriage hand, Florence 14 yrs a cigarette maker, Norman Albert 11 yrs and Percy 3 yrs.

Military History

Lance Corporal George Henry Curran, enlisted in Nottingham and served with the 12th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He landed in France with his battalion on 9th September 1915 and was killed in action on 27th September 1915, less than three weeks after landing on the continent. He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
