Family History

Fred Chambers was born in 1896 he was the son of the late Thomas a coal miner contractor and Sarah Ann Chambers née Dunn of 304, Chesterfield Rd., Mansfield, Notts. Thomas was born in 1859 at Brinsley he died on 17th January 1918 he was 59 yrs old, Sarah Ann Dunn was born in 1862 at Brinsley, they were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 4 children. In 1911 the family are living at Glenwyn Villas, Chesterfield Road, Mansfield, Thomas 52 yrs is a coal miner contractor, he is living with his wife Sarah Ann 49 yrs and two of their children, Sarah Ann 24 yrs a packer in a tin factory and Fred 15 yrs a coal miner.

Military History

Private Fred Chambers enlisted on 11th December 1915 giving his age as 20 years and 92 days, He served with the 7th battalion North Staffordshire Regiment. He was wounded on 29th January 1917 Operated on several times to wounds to legs but died of theses wounds on 21st April 1917. He is buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq
