Family History

John William Cane was born in 1899 at Radford and was the only son of Joseph a warehouseman and Tamar Cane née Hart of 85 Bloomsgrove Street, Nottingham. His father Joseph was born in 1874 at Radford and his mother Tamar Hart was born in 1877 at Basford, they were married in 1898 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. In the 1911 census the family are living at 85 Bloomsgrove Street, Nottingham and are shown as Joseph 37 yrs a warehouse man, he is living with his wife Tamar 34 yrs a lace hand and their son John 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Private John William Cane, enlisted at Hucknall whilst residing at Mapperley and served with the 7th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 20th October 1918. He is buried in Amerval Communal Cemetery Extension, Solesmes. Nord, France grave reference B 4
