Samuel Busby was born in 1888 he was the son of George a dealer in pots and coal and Mary Ann Busby née Newton of 11 New England, Pleasley. George was born in 1854 at Thorney, Cambridgeshire Mary Ann Newton was born in 1856 at Ruddington, they were married on 30th December 1873 at St Edmunds' Church, Mansfield Woodhouse, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 2 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at New England, Mansfield George 57 yrs is a pot and coal dealer he is living with his wife Mary Ann 56 yrs and 6 of their children including Samuel 23 yrs a collier

Military History

Private Samuel Busby enlisted at Mansfield , he served with the 10th battalion Cameronians and died of wounds on 21st August 1916, he is buried at Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt
