Hebert Bellis was born in 1888 at Little Lever, Lancashire the son of Robert a coal miner hewer and the late Ann Bellis née Williams of Little Lever, Lancashire. Robert Bellis was born in 1852 at Buckley, Flintshire, Ann Williams was born in 1848 at Hope, Flintshire, she died in 1911 at Little Lever aged 63 yrs, they were married in 1873 and had 7 children, 1 died in infancy or early childhood. Herbert married Elizabeth West in 1917 at Nottingham, they lived at 5 Bursley Terrace, Randall Street, Nottingham. Commencing 10th February 1919 his wiodw was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week , at this date she was living at 116 Woodborough Road, Nottingham.

Military History

Private Herbert Bellis enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 7/8th battalion King's Own Scottish Borderers, he was killed in action on 23rd July 1918 and is buried at Vauxbuin French National Cemetery, France.
