He was the son of George and Violetta Mary Steer and the brother of Viletta Mary, Lilian Dorothy, John William Vernon, Edith Iris and Henry Leslie Steer of 23 Petersham Street Grove Road Lenton Nottingham. He was engaged to Kate at the time of his death.

Military History

He was reported wounded and missing on 30 July 1915 but was not officially reported killed until May the following year. He is buried in Poelcapelle British Cemetery 55.E.17/20
