Family History

Richard Cotton Wildgoose (junior) was born in 1896 the son of Richard Cotton (senior) a colliery winding engine driver and Jane Wildgoose née Beresford and the brother of Arthur Beresford, Frances Margaret and Frederick John Wildgoose of Tapton Cottages, Newton near Alfreton. In 1911 they lived at Crag Lane, Newton, Alfreton Blackwell. Richard Cotton (senior) was born in 1873 at Brampton, Derbyshire, Jane Beresford was born in 1871 at Calow, Derbyshire, married on 28th September 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Chesterfield registration district.

Military History

Corporal Richard Wildgoose enlisted at Chesterfield whilst residing at Alfreton, he was reported wounded missing in action on the 27th April 1917 and was subsequently reported as killed in action on the same date. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
