Family History

William Richmond Skeath was born in 1890 the son of the late William Skeath a colliery carpenter and Margaret Ann Skeath nee Richmond and the brother of John, Leonard, Stella, Jessie, Maggie and Elsie Skeath. William Skeath was born in 1844 at Prescot, Lancashire he died in Nottinghamshire in 1904 aged 40 yrs, Marggaret Ann Richmond was born in 1863 at Liverpool, married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the West Derby Registration disatrict, they went on to have 7 children. In 1911 they lived at 8 Church Hill Kirkby in Ashfield. William married Elizabeth Finlow on 25th April 1916 at the Wesleyan Chapel. Southport, his wife brought a child Elizabeth Ruth Armison born 1911 to the marriage, they had a son William Raymond born 1st July 1917, they lived at 9 Hensington Road, Southport. His wife later moved to New York, America where she died on 17th April 1933 aged 45 yrs.

Military History

Sergeant William Richmond Skeath enlisted on 15th July 1915 at Manchester giving his age as 24 yrs and 5 months, his occupation was a clerk. Posted to the Manchester Regiment he was promoted to Lance Corporal 12th August 1915 and to Corporal on 25th September 1915 and finally to Sergeant on 29th October 1915. Later transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers he was finally posted to the Sherwood Foresters Regiment on 3rd April 1918. He landed in France on 2nd April 1918 and was killed in action on 24th April 1918.
