In 1901, Harry boarded at 17, Upper Regent Street, Beeston, Nottingham. He was the husband of Ellen (née Pease) Mellors and the father of Harry Rider Mellors who was born in 1907. In 1911, they were boarding at 162, New Annesley with Robert Hutchinson, a 55 year old widowed coal miner. Following Harry's death in Gallipoli, Ellen married Bernard Harvey in 1916 and was living at Bleak Hall, East Kirkby, Nottinghamshire.
Harry Mellors enlisted at Mansfield and landed at Gallipoli on 14th June 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial. Between April 1915 and January 1916, 436 officers and men from 2nd Bn South Wales Borderers were killed and 982 wounded. Of their 94 officers, 75 became casualties. Dysentery was rife throughout the summer of 1915, with at its height, 5,000 men a week being struck down with the disease. Harry Mellors was one of 13 men from the unit to lose their lives on July 6th 1915.
