Family History

Alfred Henry Hill had been born in Ramsey, Huntingdonshire in 1882. He was the first born to Walter and Emily Hill and had eight siblings, six born in Ramsey and two born in Market Rasen, Lincolnshire after the family moved there about 1892. Alfred had left the family home by 1901 and in 1904 married Mary Elizabeth Anderson. They had two children, George Alfred in 1905 and Roland Henry Hill in 1909. In 1911 Alfred and his family were living at Woodhouse Hall, Holbeck on the Welbeck estate, Alfred working as a general farm labourer

Military History

His soldiers record appears not to have survived but he enlisted in the 7th North Staffs. This battalion served in Mesopotamia from February 1916. He was killed in action in one of the conflicts in the region and buried in Amara War Cemetery 24.A.15
