Percy William Bailey Freer was the youngest son of the late Samuel a licensed victualler and Sarah Ann Freer née Bailey of 102 Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford. His father Samuel was born in 1865 in Newthorpe and his mother Sarah Ann Bailey was born in 1867 in Darley, Shropshire, they were married in 1886, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have 5 children, sadly 1 died in infancy, their surviving children were John George Leonard b1887 Stanton Hill, Adeliza Dallas b1889 Stanton Hill, Samuel Gerald b1891, Percy William Bailey b1897 Kikby in Ashfield. In the 1911 census the family are living at Sherwood House, Kirkby in Ashfield and are shown as Sarah Ann Freer 44 yrs a widow an inn keeper, she is living with her children John George Leonard 24 yrs a joiner, Adeliza Dallas 22 yrs no occupation, Samuel Gerald 20 yrs an electric engineer and Percy William Bailey 14 yrs a scholar, also at the address is Elizabeth Gripton 18 yrs a domestic servant. His probate which was proven on 9th February 1923 at Nottingham shows him as Percy William Bailey Freer of 102 Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford, died 20th May 1911, his effects of £182 0 shillings and 3 pence were left to Samuel Gerald Freer an electrical engineer
Private Percy William Bailey Freer, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the Army Ordnance Corps, he died on 20th May 1916 at 102 Radcliffe Road, West Bridgford whilst on home leave. He was buried in Kingsway Old Cemetery, East Kirkby, Nottinghamshire, on 24 May 1916
Nottingham Evening Post, 'Roll of Honour', 23 May 1916: ‘Freer. On May 20th, at 102, Radcliffe-road, West Bridgford, Private PWB Freer, AOC, aged 18 years, youngest son of Sarah Ann Freer, late of Sherwood House, Kirkby-in-Ashfield. Funeral at East Kirkby Cemetery, 2 o’clock, Wednesday, 24th.’ (www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk) In memoriam published 21st May 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “FREER. – In loving memory of Private Perc Freer, A.O.C., late of the Borough Club, youngest son of Sarah Ann Freer, who died May 20th, 1916.
