William Cecil Rose married in Wandsworth in 1876 to Sarah Fuggles. William was a baker cum bread maker and lived in Battersea when first married. They shortly moved to Wimbledon where they resided for many years. Altogether they had 5 children Edwin, William, Winifred all born in Battersea, then Olive and George born Wimbledon. The youngest child, George was born in 1892 and by 1911 he was working as a clerk in an electro chemical engineers works. After 1911 and prior to enlisting in 1914, he came to Worksop working as a clerk in the estate offices of the Duke of Newcastle.
Lance Corpl. George Rose Worksop Guardian 3 May 1918 It is with regret that we have to record the death in action of Lance Corpl. George Rose.Y. And L. Information of which was received this week from the record Office York, stating that the gallant soldier was killed on April 11th. Lance Corpl. Rose who was about 26 years of age, was home on leave from the front only a few weeks ago, and paid a visit to his friends in Worksop. He was a tall soldierly young man and joined the Sheffield City Battalion in 1914, being transferred to the York’s and Lanc’s. Previous to that he was a clerk in the estate offices of the Duke of Newcastle, Worksop, coming there from London.
