Family History

Cecil Caunt was born in 1897 he was the son of Henry and Emily Caunt and the brother of Maud, Percy (killed in action 1/7/1916), Maggie and Doris Caunt of Skegby. Henry was born in 1864 at Skegby, Emily Smith was born in 1868 at Sutton in Ashfield, they were married on 14th February 1888 at St Andrews Church, Skegby they had 5 children. In 1911 they lived at Skegby Forest near Mansfield Nottinghamshire. Henry 47 yrs is a coal miner hewer His parents later moved to 34 Vere Avenue Stoneyford Road Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire.

Military History

Private Cecil Caunt enlisted at Mansfield on 10th November 1915. He was killed in action, 30th August 1918, aged 21, whilst serving in the line near Gorre, France. Buried : Fouquieres Churchyard Extension, France. Plot 4. Row E. Grave 12.

Extra Information

His brother Private Percy Caunt 11th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment was also killed in action on 1st July 1916 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
