Thomas Bradford was born in Stanton Hill, and baptised at Skegby on 26th November 1884 to parents Marsden and Sarah Bradford. Marsden Bradford was a Coal Miner and a native of Coleorton, Leicestershire. In 1911 Marsden Bradford and his family were living at Stanton Hill, Skegby, Notts. Thomas Bradford married Elizabeth Fowler in 1906 at Mansfield and in 1911 they lived at 37 Crown Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield. His youngest daughter May was born 26th June 1915, and baptised at St Mary's Church on 6th September 1915, when her father was recorded as a "Soldier, killed in action" their other children were Jane born 3rd October 1906, Theresa born 3rd October 1907 and John born 4th August 1911. Commencing 24th April 1916 his widow was awarded a pension of 22 shillings and 6 pence a week.
Rifleman Thomas Bradford enlisted on 3rd March 1915 at Sutton in Ashfield, giving his age as 30 yrs and 90 days, he was a coal miner. His next of kin was his wife Elizabeth, posted to the Rifle Brigade he reported to their barracks at Winchester the following day. He embarked on 4th July 1915 and was reported missing later declared killed in action on 30th July 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres, Belgium
