George was born in 1899 in Sutton in Ashfield and was the son of Harold and Eliza (Lizzie) Allsop and the brother of Lillian and Arthur Brook Allsop. In 1911 they lived at 3 Alfreton Road Manor Terrace Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire.

Military History

He served in the 2nd battalion , Lincolnshire Regiment and died on Sunday 2nd December 1917 , he has no known grave and is remembered on the Tyne Cot memorial , Zonnebeke, West Vlaanderem, Belgium . He was awarded the British War and Victory Medals.

A report in the Notts Free press dated 3rd may 1918 - stated KILLED IN ACTION We regret to state that Mr A E Allsop, Kirkby Road, has received an intimation that his only son Private George William Allsop has been killed in action. barley 19 years of age Private Allsop had been in France only a fortnight. Concerning private George Frederick Allsop son of Mr H Allsop ' Ashlands ' who has been missing since December, we are sorry to state that no further news has yet been received. George William and George Frederick were cousins, there fathers being brothers. Addition information from Lynne Weston
