Family History

Percy Harrison was born in 1891 at Ruddington he was the son of Samuel a frame work knitter and the late and Harriett Harrison née Ironmonger of Station Road, Ruddington, Nottinghamshire. Samuel was born in 1860 at Ruddington, Harriett Ironmonger was born in 1863 in Derbyshire she died aged 50 years in 1911 he was the brother of Gertrude, Albert, Gladys and Stanley Harrison. His parents were married in 1882 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 8 children. In 1901 they lived on Church Street and in 1911 on Station Road (both Ruddington) in 1911 Samuel is 51 yrs and is a frame work knitter, he is a widow and is living with his children, Percy 20 yrs a hosiery warehouseman, Gladys 13 yrs and Stanley 11 years of age. Percy married Ruth Smith (born 28th February 1891) in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 48 Finsbury Avenue, Sneinton, Nottingham. Commencing 11th March 1918 his widow was awarded a pension of 13 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Driver Percy Harrison enlisted at West Bridgeford whilst residing at Ruddington, he served with the 48th Divisional Column, Royal Field Artillery, he was killed in action on 24th August 1917 and is buried at Gwalia Cemetery Grave Reference: I H 8
